Stay-at-Home-Moms, where you at? This post is for you. I am so super excited because this is my first ever Because I Said So rant. I know, I know, with a name like Because I Said So you’d think this whole site would just be rants. But alas, that’s not what I’m all about. However, this I just had to share, put out into the universe, get some feedback, etc.
The other day I went to an eye doctor appointment. As I was filling out the new patient paperwork I came to a question that simply asked “Are you Employed?” with a checkbox for yes and a box for no. I sat there for a second and debated checking off “yes” and then writing some snarky response like CEO of Baby Harper Industries, LLC or Chief Poop Remover, MD. But it was my first time at this doctor’s office and I didn’t want to seem like some angry, self-righteous person.
We’ve all been there, right? Being a full-time, SAHM is just one of those jobs that is impossible to describe. It was simply the oddest feeling in the world to look at that question and check “no.” I thought about telling the lady at the front desk that they should reword the question, or include a line with something like “Job Description.” I mean really, how hard would that be? I wanted to shake her and say: “I’m not some unemployed bum!” (although my clothes and hair said otherwise), I have a full time job, I swear! Ultimately I decided that it didn’t really matter what these people at the eye doctor thought of me. I really just needed my contact prescription refilled.
Has something like this happened to you? How did you react? Tell me it’s not just me, friends.
