Make Your Home Look Brand New With This Simple Cleaning Hack

I totally realize that I’m promising big things with the title of this post. And let me just say this, I will not over-promise and under-deliver, because honestly, no one has time for that. Most of us love a good time-saving hack. And it’s no surprise that the most popular post on this site shares places to clean you probably never even thought about. So why not combine two amazing things (life hacks + cleaning) into one ultra-amazing simple cleaning hack?

2 years ago we moved into our first home – and it was brand new, built from the ground up. And for the first couple of months it looked and felt like a new home. Clean walls, sparkling baseboards, and dark, shiny floors. Well 2 years, 2 dogs, and 1 toddler later, let’s just say the house could use a little love.

Whether you live in a new home or one built last century, I think this simple cleaning hack will be just the thing you need to give your home a little DIY facelift.

Make Your Home Look Brand New With This Simple Cleaning Hack

My favorite simple cleaning hack was actually introduced to me many years ago by a good friend when Eric and I were moving out of our apartment. Hoping to get our security deposit back, we desperately wanted to get the scratches and scuffs off the walls. My friend brought me a pack of Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. LIFE. CHANGED. Now I realize in 2017 this is probably not a huge revelation for many of us, but what I have to share with you next totally is.

After many nights of budget-savvy research I found a MUCH cheaper alternative on Amazon. What I also found was that there are apparently a ton of “off-brand” Magic Erasers available online, but after sifting through the reviews, I started to doubt whether any of them would actually work.

So I finally picked one that had solid reviews with the right price, $11.95 for 20 (for 20!) with Prime Free Shipping. I feel like now would be a good time to mention that this is NOT a sponsored post, I truly am just that excited about finding an inexpensive simple cleaning product that works.

You can use a Magic Eraser for that?!

I used to think you could only use them to buff out scratches on the walls, but friends, you can use them for so much more:

Cleaning:

  • the baseboards
  • pen/crayon marks off of cupboards
  • built-up dust off of blinds
  • stains/buffing scratches off of a door

Scrubbing:

  • the soap scum off of the bathtub
  • a glass stovetop
  • the shower door

Amazing, right? Cleaning lovers rejoice. I think it’s important to mention that in my house, the baseboards, cupboards, blinds, and interior doors are all painted white. While I am fairly certain you can use Magic Erasers (real or off-brand) on darker paints, I don’t have personal experience with this. Our walls are painted a light grey and I’ve never had a problem using them there.

In the “before” picture below you can see a certain someone’s little fingerprints on the walls (plus a bonus mystery stain). Then, in the “after” – all gone, like magic, as it were. You’d be surprised how much newer your home can feel after buffing out a couple random scuffs on the wall, or shining up some of the baseboards in the entryway.

This particular brand comes in different size packs, all for a pretty good deal compared to the name brand. You can get 20 of them for $11.95 here on Amazon. Here’s a picture for size reference (just happened to be what was readily available!)
