These easy and healthy toddler lunch ideas are great for toddlers, preschoolers, and even “big” kids. Whether you’re looking for make-ahead ideas, easy ways to reuse leftovers, or ideas you can throw together quickly – I’ve got you covered.
Lunch is one of those weird meals, right?
My girls like to eat a big breakfast and a small dinner – and lunch can really go either way.
But as a stay at home mom, lunch is an important part of our daily routine.
Having a set lunchtime helps provide structure to the day, including morning outings and afternoon naps. Lunch is like the glue for the “before lunch” block and “after lunch” block!
That being said, I’ve also found that lunch is the smallest meal my kids eat, which means I typically make a snacky lunch or just bring lunch on the go with us.
Today I’m sharing toddler lunch ideas at home & on the go!

Of course, many factors can influence how much your toddler eats at lunch:
- Growth spurt
- Tiredness
- Hunger/Lack of
- Interest in food
Even if I don’t think my toddler will eat much for lunch, I still put together a snacky plate with string cheese, hummus & pretzels and fruit!
If you find that your toddler is too tired or distracted to eat lunch after you get home from a morning outing, try bringing lunch with you!
You can bring a packed lunchbox along to the park, library, playdate or even just running errands.
Then when you get home, you can start on naptime without being stressed about making lunch first.

Easy & Healthy Toddler Lunch Ideas
Below you’ll find quick & easy toddler lunches I’ve served to my two girls (ages 2 & 4). Mix and match, use what you have on hand and don’t be afraid to repeat favorites! Just to note, the sliced baby carrots were for my older daughter.

Pictured above:
- Tuna salad on mini pita bread, sliced cucumbers, chopped tomatoes & cheese cubes
- Cooked black beans, shredded cheese, avocado & chopped tomatoes
- Homemade pizza bites (bagel, marinara sauce, broccoli & cheese), cucumbers, sliced carrots, avocado & bell pepper slices
- Cheese & black bean quesadilla, sour cream, and sliced rainbow carrots.
Toddler Lunchbox Ideas
Next up are some quick lunch ideas you can take on the go. I like to prep these in the morning while I’m already making breakfast, and that’s one less thing to do before we leave the house!

Lunchbox Tips for Toddlers
- The lunches above were all packed in August when peaches, plums, & raspberries were in season.
- Change up the fruit for whatever is in season for you or whatever your toddler likes!
- My girls love cucumbers, so you’ll see that on repeat in my lunches. Sub in whatever your toddler’s favorite is. Adding a dip like hummus or ranch is always a good idea.
- If your toddler is super picky, try packing a snacky lunch with crackers, cheese, fruit, and cookies (I get the big box of MadeGood cookies at Costco)

Make-Ahead / Meal Prep Lunch Ideas for Toddlers (And Mom)
Two of my favorite make-ahead lunch ideas are quesadillas and mini pizzas.
I always have tortillas and mini naan bread in my freezer so I can easily prep these lunches in advance.
The ongoing joke between my husband and I is that if I had my own cooking show, it would be called “Can You Quesadilla It?”
That’s pretty much my go-to with any type of leftovers. I just make a quesadilla out of it.

Pictured above:
- Left: sheet pan quesadillas – line a sheet pan with foil and spray with oil or use parchment paper. Lay out 4 tortillas, spread with refried beans, top with shredded cheese, and then top with another tortilla, or fold over one tortilla. Bake at 400 F for about 8-10 minutes until crispy.
- Right: sheet pan mini pizzas – line a sheet pan with foil and spray with oil or use parchment paper. Lay out mini naan breads, spread with marinara sauce, top with shredded mozzarella cheese. Bake at 400 F for about 8-10 minutes until crispy and melty.
How to make these lunches in advance
- After cooking, let cool completely.
- Store in a glass container with parchment paper in between each to avoid sticking together.
- If you are going to eat within the week, store in the fridge in a glass storage container.

- Leftover pasta with pesto or marinara (serve with beans or leftover meatballs for extra protein)

- Last night’s pizza or make-ahead pizza
