Woodland. Everything Woodland. Zulily, stop reading my mind already. I knew this would be Harper’s theme the moment I found out I was pregnant. Foxes and owls. Owls and foxes. How could I resist?
Check out all of the easy woodland-themed DIYs below! Perfect for your little one’s woodland 1st birthday party!
Easy DIY Woodland 1st Birthday Party
(I used these chalkboard markers for the above project)
The Invites
First things first: The Invite! I ordered the invites from Bloomberry Designs on Etsy and printed them at OfficeMax. Last I checked the shop was taking a short break, but hopefully will be back soon!
Honeycomb Owls
Now for the crafts. Pinterest, I love you. But you already knew that, didn’t you? Check out these adorable Honeycomb Owls below. Not only was this craft super inexpensive, it was also super easy. No woodland 1st birthday is complete without owls!
I got the honeycomb balls at Michael’s on sale for 79 cents. 79 CENTS. I cut the nose and ears out of a sheet of craft foam and taped them on. And then googly eyes to top it off, obv.
1st Birthday Door Wreath
The Door Wreath I made with:
- scrapbook paper
- a gluestick
- some cardboard
- ribbon
Yep. That easy. I printed out Harper’s monthly pictures and just mounted them on scrapbook paper. I attached the pictures to each other with glue and then reinforced the back with some cut-up pieces of cardboard glued on. Attach a cute ribbon at the top to hang it up. Done!
Here’s the wreath hanging on our front door for the guests to see as they entered (the fox and owl flower pots are from Home Depot).
“ONE” Banner
Are you ready for this next one? The “ONE” Banner. The burlap bunting was also on sale for 79 cents at Michael’s. The tassels were 1.99. The stickers I already had. LIKE A BOSS. Needless to say, this craft was also super cheap and super easy, #winning.
Cupcake Owls
This “craft” was probably my favorite. Cupcake Owls. Enough said. Huge thankyous go out to Eric’s mom and aunt for making these a reality.
We took some shortcuts and used:
- store-bought cupcakes
- Oreos
- M&Ms
My top priority was to make Harper her own healthy birthday cake from scratch, the cupcakes were meant more as a fun project for the guests. If you have the time, or the room in your party budget, you could definitely sub homemade or healthier store-bought cupcakes, Newman O’s, and SunDrop Candies.
Party Favors
I ordered the tags from ThePrettyPaperStudio on Etsy and then printed them. Snagged a package of cellophane treat bags at Michael’s for about 4 bucks.
The night before the party I put my friends to work stuffing the bags with marshmallows, Hershey’s bars and graham crackers. (Note: you could definitely do a healthier version with marshmallows from Whole Foods and Whole Foods 365 Organic Graham Crackers). Since this was a 1st birthday, the treats were really for the adults :).
